Left, right, straight on
Croatian answers which way? with adverbs, not adjectives — they never change their ending:
| lijevo | (to the) left |
| desno | (to the) right |
| ravno | straight ahead |
| natrag | back |
| I go straight on, and you go left. | Idem ravno, a ti ideš lijevo. |
Turning
skrenuti is to turn. It is a perfective verb, so at this stage use it after a modal — moram skrenuti, mogu skrenuti — rather than on its own.
| I have to turn left. | Moram skrenuti lijevo. |
The compass
| sjever | north |
| jug | south |
| istok | east |
| zapad | west |
To say you are heading in one of these directions, use na plus the accusative — the same destination pattern you already use with places.
| We are going south. | Idemo na jug. |
