Enrollment and Classes
Use the adjective دراسي (academic) to describe things related to school or studying. Like all Arabic adjectives, it follows the noun it modifies and matches its gender.
| The university campus is very beautiful during the academic period. | المدينة الجامعية جميلة جدا خلال الفترة الدراسية.al-madînatu l-jâmi'iyyatu jamîlatun jiddan khilâla l-fatrati d-dirâsiyyah |
To say someone enrolled in a university or program, use the verb التحق paired with the preposition ب. Once enrolled, you will likely attend a lecture (محاضرة).
| She enrolled in the university and attended the first lecture. | التحقت بالجامعة وحضرت المحاضرة الأولى.iltahaqat bil-jâmi'ati wa-hadarati-l-muhâdarata-l-'ûlâ |
Courses and Degrees
A university course is a مقرر. If a student does not study well, they might fail (رسب).
| He failed the course because he did not study well. | رسب في المقرر لأنه لم يدرس جيدا.rasaba fi al-muqarrari li'annahu lam yadrus jayyidan |
Use معدل for your grade point average. Standard academic degrees include a Bachelor's (بكالوريوس) and a Master's (ماجستير).
| He must get a good average in the Bachelor's degree. | يجب عليه أن يحصل على معدل جيد في البكالوريوس.yajibu 'alayhi an yahsula 'alâ mu'addalin jayyidin fil-bakâlôryûs. |
Each degree program follows a specific curriculum (منهج).
| The Master's curriculum is different from the Bachelor's curriculum. | منهج الماجستير مختلف عن منهج البكالوريوس.man'haju al-mâjistîri mukhtalifun 'an man'haji al-bakâlôriyûs. |
| The student will graduate from the university with a Bachelor's degree. | سوف يتخرج الطالب من الجامعة بدرجة البكالوريوس.sawfa yatakharraju al-tâlibu mina al-jâmi'ati bidarajati al-bakâlûryûs. |
Administration and Student Activities
The student union (اتحاد الطلاب) organizes campus events, while course registration (تسجيل) is required every semester.

The head of a university faculty is the dean (عميد for a male, عميدة for a female).
| Isn't the dean in her office now? | أليست العميدة في مكتبها الآن؟alaysati al-'amîdatu fî maktabihâ al-âna? |
| The dean refused the registration of the female students who did not pay the tuition fees. | رفضت العميدة تسجيل الطالبات اللواتي لم يدفعن الرسوم الدراسية.rafadati al'amidatu tasjila attalibati allawati lam yadfa'na arrusuma addirasiyyata. |
