Eco-Friendly Home Upgrades

In this lesson, we will cover vocabulary and phrases for making your home more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.

Emissions and Home Improvements

When discussing the environment, a primary focus is managing carbon (كربون). To describe processes like "improvement" (تحسين) or "cooling" (تبريد), Arabic frequently uses the verbal noun, known as the masdar (مصدر). These verbal nouns act like regular nouns and are often used in construct phrases (Idafa) to specify what is being improved or cooled.

Insulation and Power Generation

Improving efficiency often means finding a structural gap (فجوة) to stop the waste (هدر) of resources. Once waste is minimized, you can focus on the generation (توليد) of clean power. Notice how these nouns are also used in Idafa structures, such as "wasting energy" or "generating electricity."

System Upgrades and Capacity

Upgrading your home may require the replacement (استبدال) of old appliances or evaluating the capacity (سعة) of a new solar battery or water tank.

When describing the highest limit of these systems, you will use the word "maximum" (أقصى). This word follows the standard Arabic comparative/superlative pattern and is often followed by an indefinite noun to specify the measurement.

Transitioning to Clean Energy

The ultimate goal of these upgrades is a broader change. To describe this shift, you will use the verb "to transition" (تحول). When indicating what you are transitioning towards, it is followed by the preposition إلى (to).
