In Arabic, you already know how to express possession using an Idafa (إضافة), linking two nouns together like "the manager's office". To express nested possession, such as "the door of the manager's office" or "the project report file," you can string three or more nouns together into a Complex Idafa.

### The Rule of the Final Noun

When linking three or more nouns, the most important rule is about definiteness: **only the very last noun in the chain** can take the definite article (ال) or a possessive suffix. 

Every noun before the final one must drop both the definite article and nunation (tanween), even though they are conceptually definite. 

For example, to say "the manager's office door" (literally "door office the-manager"), you write باب مكتب المدير. Notice that only المدير has the definite article, while باب and مكتب do not.

### Case and Sentence Structure

A complex possession chain acts as a single grammatical unit. 

The first noun in the chain changes its case depending on its role in the sentence (for example, whether it is the subject, or the object of a verb). Every noun that follows it in the chain acts as a possessor and therefore takes the genitive case.
