Vivir means "to live" in every sense: to be alive, to reside somewhere, and to experience something. It is a fully regular -ir verb, so its endings are the standard pattern shared by hundreds of other -ir verbs.
Because vivir and comer share most of their endings (except in the nosotros and vosotros forms of the present indicative), learning one gives you most of the other.

Common Uses
Vivir expresses three overlapping ideas: being alive, residing in a place, and experiencing something intensely. The imperative ¡Viva! is also used as a cheer — ¡Viva México!
