Obedecer means "to obey." It is a -cer verb, so like conocer, nacer, and parecer, it takes a -zco ending in the yo form of the present indicative, and the same irregular stem (obedezc-) runs through every form of the present subjunctive.

Desobedecer ("to disobey") and aborrecer ("to detest"), along with many other -cer verbs built on common stems, follow exactly the same conjugation pattern. The irregularity is stable across the whole family.
