Conjugation of concloure

Concloure means “to conclude, finish, bring to an end” and “to infer.” It can be transitive (concloure una negociació), intransitive (la sessió conclou a les sis), or followed by a content clause (l'informe conclou que cal actuar). The verb is more frequent in (formal), journalistic, legal, and academic language than in relaxed conversation, where acabar or arribar a la conclusió is often more natural.

Morphologically, concloure belongs to the second-conjugation cloure family. Its principal parts are concloc – concloïa – concloguí – conclouré – conclogui – conclogués – conclòs. The present uses conclo-, the velar family uses conclogu-, and the irregular participle is conclòs—never concluït or conclogut.

💡
The most revealing chain is concloc – concloguí – conclogui – conclouré – conclòs. Keep the diaeresis in concloïa, where it shows that o and i belong to separate syllables.

The gerund is concloent, not concluint or concloguent. In a compound tense, the participle stays masculine singular: les negociacions han conclòs. In adjectival or passive use it agrees: una investigació conclosa; uns acords conclosos. Only masculine singular conclòs carries the grave accent.

The spelling contrast concloïa versus concloíem follows ordinary accent rules: an acute accent already marks the hiatus in the first- and second-person plural forms, so no diaeresis is added. Present conclou is both third-person indicative and second-person singular imperative; context distinguishes the homophonous forms. The simple past is mainly (formal/literary) in Central Catalan, while the periphrastic past is neutral in speech.

Arguments, inference, and pronominal constructions

When concloure means “finish,” it can take a direct object (concloure l'informe) or be intransitive (l'acte conclou). Concloure amb introduces the final element of an event or text: el discurs conclou amb un agraïment. When it means “infer,” it takes a que clause, a direct object, or a source introduced by de: D'aquest indici, conclouen que hi havia una segona entrada.

Dels canvis de tinta, els experts conclouen que la carta es va escriure en dues etapes.

From the changes in ink, the experts conclude that the letter was written in two stages.

The sequence se'n conclou que is frequent in (formal/academic) argumentation. Here se creates an impersonal or passive-like perspective and en represents the evidence or premise; it does not mean that the verb's citation form is freely concloure's. Plain concloure remains correct in la sessió va concloure and l'autora conclou que....

D'aquestes xifres se'n conclou que la demanda continua creixent.

From these figures, it follows that demand continues to grow.

In ordinary conversation, acabar is much broader and less formal: La pel·lícula acaba a les onze. Concloure is natural when an organized proceeding ends, an argument reaches its result, or parties formally complete an agreement. Concloure un acord means formally reach or enter into it, not merely stop discussing it.

💡
Separate three frames: concloure una tasca (finish an object), concloure amb X (end with X), and concloure que X (infer a proposition).

(Regional: Valencian) present subjunctive concloga, conclogues, concloga, concloguem, conclogueu, concloguen and imperfect concloguera... are standard; compound forms can use haja and haguera. The core forms concloc, concloïa, concloent, and conclòs are shared across the major standards.

Key Takeaways

Memorize concloc, concloïa, conclogu-, conclour- and conclòs. The participle, not an invented concluït, builds every compound tense. Match syntax to meaning: direct object for something completed, amb for the final component, de for evidential source, and que for a proposition inferred. Use se'n conclou only when its impersonal/passive analysis is intended.
