A converb is a non finite verbform, that expresses adverbial subordination, meaning it functions to add adverbial information to the main clause, like "when", "because", "while" or "after".

Unlike finite verbs, converbs do not conjugate for person, number or tense and are subordinate to a main verb, providing optional information about how or why the action in the main clause occurs.

Examples :

She walked down the street, drinking a coke.

On being elected president he moved to the capital.
