In Handbook of Japanese Syntax. • v jap. větě není nepostradatelný . – často je nevyjádřen (je-li odvoditelný z kontextu/nabyl fci tématu)– není-li stanoveno jinak, je ve větě oznamovací podmětem (konatelem, trpitelem atd.) mluvčí / jeho skupina; ve větě tázací a rozkazovací 2. os. / její skupina • často v pozici tématu (pak je to téma + podmět) • fci podmětu mohou zastávat nominální fráze – uvedeny hl. partikulí GATest yourself: What does šugo mean?
