Questions & Answers about Konser süperdi.
How would I use this lesson's emphasis structure to say the concert was really, really super?
You would double the adjective and insert the question particle between them: Konser süper mi süperdi. (The concert was truly super). Notice that the past tense suffix -di is only attached to the second süper, while the first one stays in its bare form.
Why does süperdi take the -di suffix instead of the rounded -dü?
Vowel harmony is always dictated by the last vowel of the word. In süper, the final vowel is e, which is an unrounded front vowel. Therefore, it requires the unrounded suffix -di. The rounded ü in the first syllable has no effect on the suffix.
Is it possible to write süperdi as two separate words?
Yes, it can be written as süper idi. The past tense suffix -di on nouns and adjectives is a shortened, attached version of the old past tense "to be" verb, idi. While attaching it (süperdi) is much more common in modern everyday Turkish, separating it is completely grammatically correct.
Why doesn't Konser have a suffix to indicate we mean the concert?
