Questions & Answers about Araştırma yarın bitecek.
Why is the future suffix -ecek on bitecek, rather than -acak or -yecek?
The verb root is bit- (to finish/end). Since it ends in a consonant (t), we don't need the buffer letter y. Then, following vowel harmony rules, we look at the vowel in the root, which is i (a front vowel). This means we must use the front-vowel version of the future suffix, giving us -ecek.
Why isn't araştırma in the accusative case (like araştırmayı) if it's the thing being finished?
In English, "finish" can mean both "to come to an end" and "to complete something." In Turkish, these are two different verbs! Bitmek means "to come to an end" (no direct object needed). So the research is actually the subject of the sentence: it will come to an end. If you wanted to say "I will finish the research," you would use the verb bitirmek which takes an object: Araştırmayı bitireceğim.
Does the -ma at the end of araştırma make it a negative verb?
It looks exactly like the negative command "don't research!", but here it is a noun. The -ma / -me suffix is also used to turn a verb root (araştır-) into a noun that names the activity (araştırma, meaning "research" or "investigation"). You can tell from the context that it's a noun acting as the subject of the sentence, not a negative verb.
