Questions & Answers about Bizimki sadece kullanışlı değil, aynı zamanda çok sağlam.
The lesson says the structure is sadece ... değil, aynı zamanda ... (da). Why isn't there a da at the end of this sentence?
The da or de (meaning "too" or "also") is optional in this structure. You could say aynı zamanda çok sağlam da, which adds a little extra emphasis to how sturdy it is, but leaving it out is completely natural and very common in Turkish.
How does bizimki mean "ours"?
Bizim is the possessive word for "our". Adding the suffix -ki turns it into the pronoun "ours" (or "the one that is ours"). It is used so you do not have to repeat the noun you are talking about, just like in English.
Doesn't aynı zamanda literally mean "at the same time"? Why is it translated as "but also"?
Yes, literally it means "at the same time". However, when paired with sadece ... değil (not only), the phrase aynı zamanda functions as "but also". It is the standard Turkish way to connect these two ideas: "It is not just this; at the same time, it is that."
How is the word kullanışlı (practical) formed?
It comes from the verb kullanmak (to use). The noun form is kullanış (usage or the act of using). Adding the suffix -lı (meaning "with" or "having") creates the adjective kullanışlı, literally meaning "having good usage" or "practical".
