Questions & Answers about Sürekli birbirimize yardım ediyoruz.
Why does birbiri have the suffix -miz added to it?
In Turkish, the reciprocal pronoun birbiri needs a possessive suffix to show who is doing the action. Since the hidden subject is 'we' (shown by the verb ending in -uz), we add the 'our' suffix -miz. It functions a bit like saying 'our each other'.
Why does the word end with the dative suffix -e (birbirimize)?
The verb yardım etmek (to help) always takes the dative case, which shows direction towards a target. In Turkish, you do not just help someone, you give help 'to' them. So we add the -e suffix to the end of birbirimiz.
Why does etmek change to ediyoruz here?
This is a rule called consonant mutation. When certain verbs ending in -t, like etmek (to do) or gitmek (to go), take a suffix starting with a vowel like the present continuous -iyor, the hard t softens to a d.
Could I use her zaman instead of sürekli here?
Yes, they are very similar but have a slight difference in feeling. While her zaman means 'always', sürekli implies something that happens continuously, constantly, or repeatedly without a long break. Using sürekli emphasizes that the helping is an ongoing habit.
