Questions & Answers about Nereden bilet alıyorsun?
Why do we use "nereden" instead of "nerede" here?
The word nereden means "from where" because it has the "from" ending -den. If you asked Nerede bilet alıyorsun?, it would sound more like "At what location are you standing while you buy a ticket?". Using nereden asks where the ticket itself is coming from, which is the natural way to ask this in Turkish.
I thought "almak" meant "to take". Does it also mean "to buy"?
Yes! The verb almak can mean both "to take" and "to buy". Context tells you which one makes sense. Since a ticket (bilet) is something you purchase, "buying" is the best translation here.
Why doesn't "bilet" have an ending or the word "bir" (a/an) in front of it?
In Turkish, when an object is general and not a specific item, we often leave it bare. You do not need to use the word bir (a/an) unless you want to emphasize that you are buying exactly one ticket. Leaving it as bilet essentially means you are doing the general action of "ticket-buying".
How does the ending on "alıyorsun" break down?
It starts with the verb root al- (buy/take). We add the present continuous tense ending -ıyor (similar to "-ing" in English) to make alıyor (is buying). Then we add the personal ending -sun to show it is "you" doing the action. Together, al-ıyor-sun means "you are buying".
