Why is kadın singular if there are four women?
In Turkish, nouns always stay in their singular form when they come right after a number. Even though there are four of them, we say dört kadın (literally four woman) and never dört kadınlar.
Why do we use şu instead of the plural form şunlar for 'those'?
Pointing words like bu (this/these), şu (that/those), and o (that/those) do not take plural endings when they describe a noun. Because şu is attached to the noun phrase, it stays singular. You only use şunlar when the word stands completely alone as a pronoun.
Where is the word for 'are' in this sentence?
In simple Turkish sentences, the 'to be' verb (am, is, are) is often just a suffix added to the final word. For the third person (he, she, it, or they), we usually drop the suffix entirely! Because of this, the adjective evli acts as 'are married' all by itself.
What is the difference between using şu and o here?
You could use o, but it changes the feeling slightly. O usually means the women are further away or you are already talking about them. Şu is used when you are actively pointing them out or drawing the listener's attention to them right in that moment.
