Numbers 1 to 10 (bir, iki, üç)

In Turkish, nouns following a number are always singular. For example, "three cars" translates literally as "three car" (üç araba).

Asking "How many?"

To ask "how many", use the question word kaç. The noun following kaç also remains singular.

How many students are tired?
Kaç öğrenci yorgun?
Two students are tired.
İki öğrenci yorgun.

Notice how the nouns in these examples never take a plural suffix:

These three cars are very cheap.
Bu üç araba çok ucuz.
Those four women are married.
Şu dört kadın evli.
Five nurses are sick, six police officers are ready.
Beş hemşire hasta, altı polis hazır.
Seven birds are full, eight cats are hungry.
Yedi kuş tok, sekiz kedi aç.
Nine trees are short, ten trees are tall.
Dokuz ağaç kısa, on ağaç uzun.
