What place (neresi)

To ask about locations in a large building like a shopping mall, use neresi ("what place"). Because it treats the location as a noun, it changes form depending on its role in the sentence.

As a Subject

When asking the identity of a place, use the base form neresi. Place it at the end of the sentence to ask "Where is [something]?":

Excuse me, where is the entrance?
Affedersiniz, giriş neresi?
Where is the clothing section on the upper floor?
Üst kattaki giyim bölümü neresi?

You can also use it to ask "which place" has a certain quality:

Which place is more crowded? Clothing or electronics?
Neresi daha kalabalık? Giyim mi, elektronik mi?

As a Direct Object

When a place is the direct object of an action—such as looking for or finding a location—it takes the accusative case and becomes nereyi.

Which place are you looking for on the map?
Haritada nereyi arıyorsunuz?
Which place do you want to find on the floor plan?
Krokide nereyi bulmak istiyorsun?

Locating Facilities

Pair neresi with vocabulary for stores or facilities to navigate complex buildings:

Where is the stationery store in the shopping mall?
Alışveriş merkezindeki kırtasiye neresi?
Where is the prayer room inside the building?
Binanın içindeki mescit neresi?
