To ask about locations in a large building like a shopping mall, use neresi ("what place"). Because it treats the location as a noun, it changes form depending on its role in the sentence.
As a Subject
When asking the identity of a place, use the base form neresi. Place it at the end of the sentence to ask "Where is [something]?":
| Excuse me, where is the entrance? | Affedersiniz, giriş neresi? |
| Where is the clothing section on the upper floor? | Üst kattaki giyim bölümü neresi? |
You can also use it to ask "which place" has a certain quality:
| Which place is more crowded? Clothing or electronics? | Neresi daha kalabalık? Giyim mi, elektronik mi? |
As a Direct Object
When a place is the direct object of an action—such as looking for or finding a location—it takes the accusative case and becomes nereyi.
| Which place are you looking for on the map? | Haritada nereyi arıyorsunuz? |
| Which place do you want to find on the floor plan? | Krokide nereyi bulmak istiyorsun? |
Locating Facilities
Pair neresi with vocabulary for stores or facilities to navigate complex buildings:
| Where is the stationery store in the shopping mall? | Alışveriş merkezindeki kırtasiye neresi? |
| Where is the prayer room inside the building? | Binanın içindeki mescit neresi? |
