Future subject relative clauses (-(y)acak)

The Future Subject Relative Participle (-(y)AcAk)

To describe people or things by what they will do in the future—like "the speaker who will present" or "the panel that will start"—attach the future suffix -(y)acak or -(y)ecek to the verb stem. This transforms the verb into an adjective that sits immediately before the noun it describes.

If the verb stem ends in a vowel, insert the buffer letter y.

Verb StemParticipleNounMeaning
başlabaşlayacakkonferansthe conference that will start
katılkatılacakkonuşmacıthe speaker who will attend
Where is the conference that will start next week?
Gelecek hafta başlayacak konferans nerede?
Who is the speaker who will attend the conference?
Konferansa katılacak konuşmacı kim?

Like regular Turkish adjectives, these future participles never change their form, even if the noun they describe is plural or takes a case ending. The noun does all the structural heavy lifting.

The speakers who will give a presentation are coming tomorrow.
Sunum yapacak konuşmacılar yarın geliyor.
Who is the moderator who will manage the panel?
Paneli yönetecek moderatör kim?
Shall we find the sponsors who will support this seminar?
Bu semineri destekleyecek sponsorları bulalım mı?

You can also use these participles to describe indefinite pronouns like biri (someone).

I am looking for someone who will prepare the agenda of the conference.
Konferansın ajandasını hazırlayacak birini arıyorum.
