The Future Object Relative Participle (-(y)AcAğI)
To describe a noun by an action someone will do to it—such as "the dress she will wear" or "the photographer we will find"—use the future object relative participle.
To form this, attach the future suffix -(y)acak or -(y)ecek to the verb stem, followed by a possessive suffix to indicate who will perform the action.
Because most possessive suffixes start with a vowel, the k at the end of the future suffix usually softens to a ğ.
| Person | Participle Form | Noun | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| (ben) | seçeceğim | gelinlik | the wedding dress I will choose |
| (sen) | seçeceğin | gelinlik | the wedding dress you will choose |
| (o) | seçeceği | gelinlik | the wedding dress he/she will choose |
| (biz) | seçeceğimiz | gelinlik | the wedding dress we will choose |
| (siz) | seçeceğiniz | gelinlik | the wedding dress you (pl) will choose |
| The wedding dress she will try on is very expensive. | Deneyeceği gelinlik çok pahalı. |
| The wedding dress and tuxedo we will choose are very important. | Seçeceğimiz gelinlik ve damatlık çok önemli. |
When using the "they" form, the possessive suffix (-ları / -leri) starts with a consonant, so the k does not soften.
| The country they will go to for the honeymoon is very far. | Balayı için gidecekleri ülke çok uzak. |
Here are a few more examples showing different possessive endings in action:
| The witnesses we will invite to the wedding ceremony are my friends. | Nikaha davet edeceğimiz şahitler benim arkadaşlarım. |
| The photographer you will meet with is a very good person. | Görüşeceğiniz fotoğrafçı çok iyi bir insan. |
| The excitement you will feel before the wedding is normal. | Düğünden önce hissedeceğin heyecan normal. |
Stating the Subject Explicitly
If you want to state exactly who is performing the action (such as "the bride" or "the groom" instead of "she" or "he"), that subject must take the genitive case (typically -(n)ın or -(n)in). Think of the grammatical structure literally as "the bride's future-wearing jewelry."
| The jewelry the bride will wear is interesting. | Gelinin takacağı takılar ilginç. |
| Is the tuxedo the groom will wear ready? | Damadın giyeceği damatlık hazır mı? |
You can combine these patterns to form more complex descriptive sentences:
| The jewelry she will wear at the wedding and the musician we will invite are very important. | Düğünde takacağı takı ve davet edeceğimiz müzisyen çok önemli. |
