When outlining expectations or making predictions, you often want to show how reality confirmed them. In Turkish, you do this using nitekim.
Nitekim (Indeed / As a matter of fact)
Nitekim is a conjunction used to show that an outcome proved an earlier statement or forecast true. It translates to "indeed," "as a matter of fact," or "sure enough."
It frequently joins two clauses, separating the expectation from the factual confirmation. It is common in analytical contexts, like discussing economics.
| The analysts were expecting a crisis, indeed their forecasts turned out to be right. | Analistler kriz bekliyordu, nitekim öngörüleri haklı çıktı. |
| Prices were going to increase, indeed we saw a big rise in inflation. | Fiyatlar artacaktı, nitekim enflasyonda büyük bir yükseliş gördük. |
It also works well when a known problem inevitably leads to a logical consequence:
| There was a problem in the market abroad, indeed a decline in exports happened. | Yurt dışı pazarında sorun vardı, nitekim ihracatta düşüş oldu. |
Starting a New Sentence
Nitekim can also start a new sentence to confirm the previous one. A common phrase is Nitekim öyle oldu (Indeed, it happened exactly like that).
| The industry index went up. Indeed, supply increased in the market. | Sanayi endeksi yükseldi. Nitekim piyasada arz arttı. |
| Analysts were forecasting a contraction in exports. Indeed, it happened exactly like that. | Analistler ihracatta daralma öngörüyordu. Nitekim öyle oldu. |
