In English, we say "so I got lost", but in Thai, why is there no "I" (ผม) before ก็เลย หลงทาง?
The connector ก็เลย (so/therefore) is placed immediately before the verb of the second clause, which is หลงทาง (got lost) here. Thai usually drops the subject in the second half of a sentence if it is the same as the first half. Because ผม is already understood, you skip it and go straight into ก็เลย followed by the verb.
Why is the word ขึ้น used here when it normally means "to go up"?
While ขึ้น literally means "to go up" or "ascend", it is also the standard verb for getting on or taking public transportation in Thai. You use it for buses, flights, and trains—even if that train is a subway going underground!
How exactly does ไม่เคย work to mean "never"?
The word เคย means to have experience doing something, or "used to". Adding ไม่ makes it "have no experience doing". So ไม่เคยขึ้น specifically means you have never experienced taking it in your life. You only use ไม่เคย for past experiences, not for saying you "will never" do something in the future.
