คุณ ชอบ การที่ มี อิสระ ใน การทำงาน หรือเปล่า คะ

Questions & Answers about คุณ ชอบ การที่ มี อิสระ ใน การทำงาน หรือเปล่า คะ

Why do we use การที่ before มี อิสระ instead of just การ?
การ turns a single action verb into a general noun. การที่ turns an entire clause or situation into a noun phrase meaning 'the fact that' or 'the situation where'. Here, it takes the whole idea of having freedom and turns it into the object of the verb ชอบ (to like).
The English translation says 'the fact that YOU have freedom', but there is no 'you' after การที่. Why?
In Thai, if the subject of the main sentence (คุณ) is exactly the same as the subject in the sub-clause, it is usually dropped the second time to sound natural. Saying การที่ คุณ มี อิสระ is understood but sounds a bit repetitive.
Later in the sentence we see การทำงาน. Why does this word only use การ and not การที่?
Because ทำงาน (to work) is just an action verb being turned into the general noun 'working' or 'work'. You only need การที่ when you are nominalizing a full statement or specific condition, not just a single action.
Can I use the question word ไหม instead of หรือเปล่า at the end?
Yes, ไหม works perfectly fine to ask a general yes/no question. However, หรือเปล่า (literally 'or not') is very common when asking about someone's feelings toward a specific condition or fact. It gives a slight 'is it true or not?' flavor that pairs perfectly with การที่.
