Rhetorical exclamation (อะไรจะ... ขนาดนั้น)

Living the Hi-So Life

In Thailand, high-society individuals, commonly referred to as ไฮโซ (hi-so), are famous for their lavish lifestyles. You will frequently hear about them splurging (ทุ่มเงิน) on luxury items like brand names and supercars.

Rhetorical Exclamation: อะไรจะ... ขนาดนั้น

When reacting to someone's immense wealth or extreme behavior, you can use the rhetorical exclamation frame อะไรจะ + [Adjective] + ขนาดนั้น. Literally translating to "What will be [Adjective] to that extent?", it expresses strong shock or disbelief, much like saying "How can it be so [Adjective]!" in English.

This pattern is perfect for expressing judgment when someone squanders (ผลาญ) their money purely to show off their wealth (อวดรวย).

Extravagant Events and Prestige

This exclamation frame is frequently used to react to over-the-top events, such as a lavish wedding (งานแต่ง) where the hosts go all out (จัดเต็ม) to impress their guests. In these circles, families often present a massive dowry (สินสอด) simply to build their prestige and social influence (บารมี).

When an event or display of wealth is excessively grand, you can use the slang adjective เวอร์ (borrowed from the English "over") to describe it as "over the top".
