Origins and starting points (จาก)

The Preposition จาก

To express where someone or something originates, Thai uses the preposition จาก (from). It indicates a starting point in space or time, much like its English counterpart.

"Coming from" with มาจาก

When expressing that a person or object originates from a specific place, pair the verb มา (to come) with จาก to form มาจาก (to come from).

Actions Originating from a Source

You can also place จาก after other action verbs and their objects to explain where an action starts, or where materials are extracted from.

Origins in Time

Beyond physical locations, จาก can also indicate a starting point in time. When discussing history or archeology, this is highly useful for tracing ancient artifacts back to their original era (ยุค).
