Strong communities are built on solidarity and neighbors supporting one another. In Thai, when you want to emphasize that an action is completely mutual or reciprocal, you use the emphatic pronoun กันและกัน.
| one another | กันและกัน |
Mutual Actions
To show that people are doing an action to or for each other, place กันและกัน directly after the verb.
| We must be united and help one another.
| Neighbors care about one another in order to build a good society. |
Continuous Support
When describing ongoing care within a community, Thai uses the auxiliary word คอย before a verb to show that people "keep doing" an action or are always there to do it.
| When there is a problem, friends will keep comforting and sustaining one another.
| Do not ignore your friends; we must keep caring about one another.
Sharing and Exchanging
If the mutual action involves a direct object—such as exchanging ideas or sharing physical items—กันและกัน is placed after that object.
| People here are generous and usually exchange ideas with one another.
When an action involves giving something, กันและกัน can also follow the preposition ให้ (to/for) to clarify the direction of the sharing.
| They are generous and share things with one another.
