In the event that (ในกรณีที่)

When outlining contingencies and backup plans in formal Thai, you will frequently use the phrase ในกรณีที่ ("in the event that" or "in case of").

To explain what should happen during a specific situational event, simply place ในกรณีที่ at the very beginning of the conditional clause.

This structure is the standard way to set policies for business or legal situations, such as dealing with a scammer who falsely claims an identity (แอบอ้าง) or a contracting party (คู่สัญญา) who breaches an agreement.

You will also see it used to outline protocols for events that fall beyond (นอกเหนือ) normal expectations, such as an emergency fire (เพลิงไหม้).

Finally, ในกรณีที่ sets clear administrative conditions, such as determining when an insurer will pay indemnity (สินไหม) or when asking an authority to grant an extension or show leniency (ผ่อนผัน).
