How many (กี่)

Asking "How Many"

To ask "how many" in Thai, use the question word กี่. It sits exactly where the number would normally go when counting, resulting in Noun + กี่ + Classifier.

For example, to ask about bottles of water, use the noun น้ำ (water) and the classifier ขวด (bottle).

Asking About Time

When asking about durations, time units act as their own classifiers. To ask how long something takes, use the phrase ใช้เวลา (literally "to use time"), followed by กี่ and units of time like ชั่วโมง (hour) or นาที (minute).

You can ask multiple "how many" questions back-to-back to get an exact duration using common time words like วัน (day), คืน (night), เดือน (month), and อาทิตย์ (week).
