Expressing the Future with จะ
To talk about future plans, intentions, or decisions, place the marker จะ directly before the verb. It functions similarly to "will" or "going to" in English.
| will | จะ |
Because Thai verbs do not change tense, จะ acts as an essential indicator that an action has not happened yet. You will often see it paired with time words like พรุ่งนี้ (tomorrow) to establish the context.
| I will go to school tomorrow. | ผม จะ ไป โรงเรียน พรุ่งนี้ ครับ |
| I will resign from the company tomorrow. | ฉัน จะ ลาออก จาก บริษัท พรุ่งนี้ ค่ะ |
Planning and Intending
When expressing that you are "planning to" do something, place จะ after the verb วางแผน (to plan) and right before the main action verb.
| He plans to resign from his job. | เขา วางแผน จะ ลาออก จาก งาน ครับ |
| She is planning to build a new building. | เขา วางแผน จะ สร้าง ตึก ใหม่ ค่ะ |
Adding Certainty
To emphasize that a future action is absolutely going to happen, add the word แน่นอน (definitely) to the end of your sentence.
| I will definitely interview that person. | ฉัน จะ สัมภาษณ์ คน นั้น แน่นอน ค่ะ |
| They will definitely build a new house. | พวก เขา จะ สร้าง บ้าน ใหม่ แน่นอน ค่ะ |
Asking Questions About the Future
To ask someone about their future plans, จะ stays in its normal position before the verb, and a standard question word like ไหม is added to the end of the sentence. In this lesson, you will practice these structures while discussing upcoming life events like continuing studies or organizing a party (จัดงานเลี้ยง).
| Will you continue studying at the university? | คุณ จะ เรียน ต่อ ที่ มหาวิทยาลัย ไหม คะ |
| My friend will organize a birthday party tomorrow. | เพื่อน จะ จัด งานเลี้ยง วันเกิด พรุ่งนี้ ค่ะ |
