The Formal Possession Marker แห่ง
In conversational Thai, the word ของ expresses basic possession. However, for the formal institutional possession or origin of official government bodies and national organizations, Thai uses the formal marker แห่ง.

Place แห่ง directly between nouns in official titles, functioning exactly like "of" in English. For example, the Ministry (กระทรวง) of Public Health (สาธารณสุข) of the Kingdom (ราชอาณาจักร):

Associations and Institutions
This marker frequently appears in the titles of organizations like an association (สมาคม) or a central bank. To say "of Thailand," add แห่ง before the country's formal name (ประเทศไทย).
| The Medical Association of Thailand is located near the hospital. | สมาคม แพทย์ แห่ง ประเทศ ไทย ตั้งอยู่ ใกล้ โรงพยาบาล ค่ะ |

Expressing "National" (แห่งชาติ)
Combine แห่ง with the word for nation (ชาติ) to translate the English adjective "national." Placing แห่งชาติ directly after an institution creates its formal title.

When referring to specific departments (กรม) or international bodies like the United Nations (สหประชาชาติ), แห่ง denotes an official representative "of" that entity.

Similarly, the Ministry of Defense (กลาโหม) uses this structure to denote its belonging to the Kingdom of Thailand.
