Expressing 'after' (หลังจาก)

To express "after" in Thai, use หลังจาก or the shorter, more casual หลัง.

Starting the sentence with "after"

Place หลังจาก or หลัง at the beginning of the sentence, followed by the first event, then the second action. This works with both nouns (like "dinner") and verbs (like "finishing work").

"After" in the middle of a sentence

Just like in English, you can also state your main action first and place the "after" phrase later in the sentence.

Late nights and celebrating

When socializing (สังสรรค์) or celebrating (ฉลอง), you might stay out late (ดึก). In Thai, ดึก usually functions as an adverb at the end of the clause.

Emphasizing completed actions

To emphasize that the first action was fully completed before the next one began, add words like เสร็จ (finished) or จบ (ended) to the end of the หลังจาก clause. Once those tasks are completed, it's the perfect time to relax (ผ่อนคลาย).
