Classifier for machines (เครื่อง)

Counting Machines

In Thai, counting objects requires a classifier. For machines, electronics, and home appliances, use the specific classifier เครื่อง.

Follow the standard counting pattern: Noun + Number + Classifier.

Describing and Pointing Out Machines

To point out a specific machine (using words like "this" or "that") or to describe it with an adjective, place the classifier right after the noun: Noun + Classifier + Adjective / Demonstrative.

When combining a number and a demonstrative, the demonstrative goes at the very end of the phrase: Noun + Number + Classifier + Demonstrative.

Appliance Shopping Vocabulary

When shopping for electronics, you will often discuss models, deals, and warranties.

Use รุ่น to specify a particular "model" of a device.

Look out for a โปรโมชั่น (promotion), which might include accessories that the store will แถม (give as a free bonus).

Finally, always check the รับประกัน (warranty or guarantee) to see how many years the device is covered.
