Affirmative reassurance (หรอก / หรอกน่า)

When a colleague is nervous before a major presentation, telling them not to worry isn't always enough. In Thai, you can add a specific particle to the end of your sentences to offer strong moral support and reassure them that things aren't as bad as they seem.

Reassuring with หรอก

The particle หรอก is often used to correct a misconception or ease a fear. When reassuring someone, it is frequently paired with negated words (like "not bad") or phrases like ไม่เป็นไร (it is nothing / it is okay) to tell the listener that their anxieties are unfounded. If they are overthinking (คิดมาก), หรอก gently brings them back to reality.

Emphatic Support: หรอกน่า

To make your reassurance even warmer and more emphatic, you can use the expanded particle หรอกน่า. The addition of น่า adds a supportive tone of "I assure you," "trust me," or "come on, it'll be fine." It is perfect for telling someone that they won't present (พรีเซนต์) badly or fail.

Giving a Confidence Boost

To fully calm someone down, you might need to address specific fears—like forgetting their script (สคริปต์), speaking hesitantly (ตะกุกตะกัก), or panicking (ลนลาน). You can pair หรอก or หรอกน่า with these reassurances to banish their doubts, and then follow up with a confidence boost, such as telling them they have the situation under control (เอาอยู่) or will pass through it smoothly (ฉลุย).
