Learn Swedish: Siffrorna tyder på ett bättre resultat. - The figures indicate a better result.

In Swedish, siffror is the standard word for statistical data, financial figures, or individual digits. Nummer is used for identification (like a phone number or queue number), and tal refers to mathematical numbers or amounts.

What is the nuance of using tyder på instead of just visar?

Tyder på means indicates, suggests, or points to. It implies that the figures show a strong trend or give a hint, but it leaves some room for interpretation. In contrast, visar (shows) sounds much more absolute and definitive as a proven fact.

Does the verb tyda mean something else if you remove på?

Yes. On its own, tyda means to decipher, interpret, or make sense of something (like reading bad handwriting or an ancient runestone). Adding the preposition på changes the meaning entirely to indicate or suggest.

Why isn't the adjective bättre declined with a T to match the ett-word resultat?

Unlike base adjectives, comparative adjectives like bättre (better) are indeclinable in Swedish. They never add a T for ett-words or an A for plurals, so the word remains exactly the same regardless of the noun's gender or number.
