Questions & Answers about Man måste ta hänsyn till andras åsikter.
How exactly is the phrase ta hänsyn till used?
It is a fixed expression meaning to take something into consideration, to show regard for, or to respect something. You use it when you need to adapt to rules, circumstances, or, as in this sentence, other people's feelings and views.
Why is there an -s at the end of andras?
This is the possessive form. The word andra means others or other people. By adding the -s, it becomes andras, meaning other people's. In Swedish, you can add this possessive -s directly to pronouns and adjectives acting as nouns.
Does the preposition till always go with ta hänsyn?
Yes, when you want to specify what you are taking into consideration, you must use the preposition till. If you just say that someone is generally considerate without specifying towards what, you can drop the preposition and just say man måste ta hänsyn.
Could I use the word meningar instead of åsikter for opinions?
You could, but åsikter is much more common and unambiguous when talking about personal views. The word meningar can mean opinions, but it is much more frequently used to mean sentences or meanings, so åsikter is the most natural choice here.
