Questions & Answers about I och med att hon ljög uppstod det många konflikter.
Why is det placed after the verb uppstod here?
This sentence uses the presentational det (like 'there' in 'there arose') to introduce new information. Because the entire first clause (I och med att hon ljög) counts as the first block of information, the V2 rule forces the main verb uppstod into the second position. The formal subject det is therefore pushed to the third position.
Could I say det uppstod de många konflikterna if I meant specific conflicts?
No, you cannot use definite nouns with the presentational det. This structure is strictly for introducing new, indefinite information. If you want to talk about specific, already known conflicts, you must drop det and make the conflicts the normal subject: I och med att hon ljög uppstod de många konflikterna.
Is i och med att just another way of saying eftersom?
They are closely related, but i och med att (due to the fact that / as a result of) heavily emphasizes the sequence and consequence of events. It implies that the conflicts were a direct, immediate chain reaction to her lying, whereas eftersom simply states a reason.
Why use uppstod instead of hände for conflicts?
