Questions & Answers about Vi måste stabilisera inflationen samt sektorn.
Why use samt here instead of just och?
Samt translates to "as well as" or "and also". It is slightly more formal than och (and) and is often used in professional, academic, or journalistic contexts. It is particularly useful for linking two distinct concepts together at the end of a list, emphasizing that both are major targets for stabilization.
This lesson covers resultative connectors like därmed and således. Could we use one of them instead of samt here?
Not directly as a simple replacement. Samt is a coordinating conjunction linking two nouns. Resultative connectors like därmed (thereby) and således (thus) show cause and effect between clauses or actions. However, you could rewrite the sentence to show a result: Vi måste stabilisera inflationen och därmed sektorn (We must stabilize inflation and thereby the sector).
Why is it inflationen (the inflation) in Swedish when the English translation just says "inflation"?
Swedish frequently uses the definite form for abstract or uncountable nouns when referring to them as a general, overarching concept. While English drops the "the" for concepts like inflation, society, or nature, Swedish keeps them definite (inflationen, samhället, naturen).
Is sektorn a regular en-word?
