Questions & Answers about Trollet bor under bron.
Why is "the bridge" bron instead of broen?
Because the root word bro (bridge) is an en-word that already ends in a vowel. Instead of adding -en, you just add -n to make it definite.
How do we know from this sentence that troll is an ett word?
The definite form ("the troll") is trollet. The -et ending tells us it's an ett word (ett troll).
If we combined the nouns in this sentence to make the compound word "troll bridge", would it need a linking vowel (fogevokal)?
No, it would just be trollbro. Short, one-syllable words like troll usually don't take a linking vowel (like -s- or -o-) when forming the first part of a compound noun.
Does the verb bor change if the subject is plural, like "The trolls live"?
No, Swedish verbs do not change based on who or how many people or things are doing the action. It would still be bor (for example, Trollen bor under bron).
