Learn Swedish: Finns det inget intressant i ubåten? - Is there nothing interesting in the submarine?

In Swedish, when an adjective describes a neuter indefinite pronoun like inget (nothing), något (something), or allt (everything), the adjective must take the neuter -t ending. Because it describes inget, the base word intressant becomes intressant (which already ends in a t, but grammatically it acts as the neuter form). If it were a different adjective like ny (new), it would become inget nytt.

Why do we use Finns det to mean 'Is there' instead of Är där?

Finns det (literally 'exists it') is the standard way to say 'is there' or 'are there' in Swedish when talking about the existence of something. If you used är där, it would sound like you are asking 'Is it over there?', pointing to a specific physical spot rather than asking if something exists.

Why is the verb Finns at the very beginning of the sentence?

This is because it is a yes/no question. Swedish forms these questions by putting the verb in the first position. So the regular statement Det finns (There is) flips its word order to become Finns det (Is there).
