Questions & Answers about Chefen måste få inbjudan tryckt.
Why are we using få here instead of a word for 'make' or 'have'?
In Swedish, the construction få + object + past participle is used to mean 'to get something done' (by someone else). Here, the boss isn't printing the invitations themselves; they are getting the invitation printed (få inbjudan tryckt).
Why does the object inbjudan come before the participle tryckt?
In this specific structure, the object always goes between få and the past participle. You cannot say få tryckt inbjudan; it must follow the pattern: get + the invitation + printed (få + inbjudan + tryckt).
Why does the participle tryckt end in a -t?
In this structure, the past participle acts like an adjective describing the object. Because inbjudan is an en-word, the participle must take its en-word form. For the verb trycka (to print), which belongs to verb group 2b, the en-word past participle form is tryckt.
The English translation says 'the invitation', but doesn't inbjudan mean 'an invitation'?
Nouns ending in -an, like inbjudan (invitation) or ansökan (application), are a special group. They have the exact same form for both the indefinite ('an invitation') and the definite ('the invitation') in the singular. Context tells us it means 'the invitation' here.
