Questions & Answers about Vi uppskattar din insats som volontär.
Why isn't there an article before volontär, like "som en volontär"?
When using som to describe someone's role, profession, or function, Swedish usually drops the indefinite article (en or ett). So, "as a volunteer" simply becomes som volontär.
Does "insats" always mean "effort"?
Not always! While here it means "effort" or "contribution", en insats can also refer to the "stakes" in a game or a financial "deposit". It generally implies putting something valuable, like time, energy, or money, into a situation.
I've seen "uppskattar" used to mean "estimate". Does it mean "appreciate" too?
Yes, it means both! Just like you can estimate a distance or appreciate a kind gesture in English, uppskattar covers both calculating a rough value and feeling grateful for something or someone.
Why do we use "din" instead of "ditt" here?
Because insats is an en word (en insats). The possessive pronoun must match the gender of the noun it describes, so we use din instead of the ett-word form, ditt.
