Questions & Answers about När de slutfört analysen, redovisar de resultatet.
Why is the verb slutfört used here without har before it?
This sentence demonstrates "ha-bortfall" (dropping of "ha"). In written or formal Swedish, the auxiliary verbs har and hade are often omitted in subordinate clauses (clauses starting with words like när, som, or att). You can absolutely say När de har slutfört analysen, but dropping har is very common in texts.
Does this rule mean I can drop har in main clauses too?
No, this omission is strictly for subordinate clauses. If this were a standalone main clause, you would have to include it: De har slutfört analysen. Without har in a main clause, the sentence is grammatically incorrect.
Why is the word order redovisar de and not de redovisar in the second half?
This is the Swedish V2 (verb-second) rule. The entire subordinate clause (När de slutfört analysen) acts as the first building block of the sentence. Because the main verb must always come in the second position, redovisar has to appear right after the comma, pushing the subject (de) after it.
How is the verb slutfört formed?
It is the supine form of the verb slutföra, which is a compound of slut (end) and föra (to bring or lead). Literally meaning "to bring to an end," it is commonly used in professional contexts for completing or finishing tasks, projects, or analyses.
