Questions & Answers about Vi håller kontakten och hörs imorgon.
Why does the verb hörs end in an -s?
This is a reciprocal s-verb. The base verb is höra (to hear). By adding an -s to the end, it shows that two or more people are doing the action to each other. So vi hörs literally means "we hear each other," which is the natural Swedish way to say "we will talk."
Is hörs only used in longer sentences like this one?
Not at all! It is frequently used completely on its own as a casual sign-off. A very common way to say goodbye in Swedish is simply saying Vi hörs! (Talk to you later!). Here, it just happens to be linked to håller kontakten with och (and).
Why is it kontakten instead of just kontakt?
In Swedish, the set phrase for "keep in touch" is hålla kontakten, which literally translates to "hold the contact." You must use the definite form kontakten (the contact) for this expression, whereas English just uses the general phrase "in touch."
Why are the verbs in the present tense when the English translation says "We'll"?
In Swedish, you can comfortably use the present tense to talk about the future if there is a time word that makes the timeframe clear. Because the sentence includes imorgon (tomorrow), the present tense verbs håller and hörs naturally take on a future meaning.
