Questions & Answers about Materialet är varmt och designen är fin.
The current lesson is about words like sådan (such). How would we use those words with the nouns in this sentence?
You have to match the gender of the noun! Since material is an ett-word, you would say ett sådant material (such a material). Since design is an en-word, you would say en sådan design (such a design).
Why does varmt end in -t here, but fin doesn't?
Adjectives must match the noun they describe. Because materialet is an ett-word, the adjective varm (warm) gets a -t added to it. Designen is an en-word, so its adjective fin (nice) stays in its basic form without a -t.
Wait, if materialet is an ett-word, why does it end in -et instead of just -t?
To say 'the' in Swedish, you add an ending to the noun. For ett-words that end in a consonant, like material, you add -et to make it materialet (the material). For en-words ending in a consonant, like design, you add -en to get designen.
Does fin mean 'fine' or 'nice' in this context?
