Questions & Answers about Vi köper många blommor idag.
Why does the word for flowers end in -or in blommor?
Blommor is the plural form of the singular noun en blomma (a flower). In Swedish, nouns that are en words ending in -a belong to Group 1. To make them plural, you drop the final -a and add -or.
The English translation says "are buying", but why is there only one verb (köper) in Swedish?
Swedish does not have an "is/are doing" verb form (the present continuous) like English does. The single present tense verb köper translates to both "buy" and "are buying" depending on the context. You should never use är (are) before another verb to try and create this meaning!
Why do we use the indefinite form blommor after många?
The word många means "many", which refers to a large amount of things but doesn't specify which exact ones. Just like in English where we say "many flowers" (not "many the flowers"), in Swedish you use the indefinite plural form after många.
Is idag always written as one single word?
You will actually see it written both ways in Swedish: as one word (idag) or as two separate words (i dag). Both are completely correct and mean "today", though writing it as one word is very common.
