Questions & Answers about Går du ibland till gymmet?
Why is ibland placed right after du?
In a Swedish question, the verb comes first (Går) and the subject comes second (du). Adverbs of frequency like ibland are usually placed immediately after the subject in questions.
Can I put ibland at the end of the sentence instead?
Yes! The word ibland is a flexible adverb. You can also say Går du till gymmet ibland? Both are correct and sound very natural to a native Swedish speaker.
I thought går meant walk. Does it also mean go?
It means both! When talking about attending places like the gym, school, or the cinema, Swedes use går even if they do not literally walk there. If you want to emphasize that you are traveling by a vehicle, you would use åker.
Why does the sentence use gymmet instead of just gym?
gymmet means the gym. In Swedish, you make a word definite by attaching an ending to the noun. Because gym is an ett-word (ett gym), we add -et to the end to mean the gym.
