Emphasizing the Action
In English, we sometimes say something like "Weaving, she does quickly" to draw a contrast with a different task. Swedish uses exactly this structure to emphasize an action: you move the infinitive form of the verb to the very beginning of the sentence.
Because Swedish strictly follows the V2 rule, the finite (conjugated) verb must come directly after this fronted infinitive. To achieve this, insert gör (does) as a helper verb in the second position, immediately followed by the subject.
| Weaving she does quickly, but spinning she does very slowly. | Väva gör hon snabbt, men spinna gör hon mycket långsamt. |
| Embroidering he does gladly, because it is a beautiful handicraft. | Brodera gör han gärna, för det är ett vackert hantverk. |
Fronting Verbs with Objects
If the action you want to emphasize includes a direct object—such as "knotting the thread" or "preparing the loom"—the entire phrase (infinitive + object) moves to the front together.
This entire phrase counts as a single grammatical unit. To satisfy the V2 rule, gör sits immediately after the object, right before the subject.
| Preparing the loom one does first of all. | Förbereda vävstolen gör man först av allt. |
| Knotting the thread one does oneself in this handicraft. | Knyta tråden gör man själv i det här hantverket. |
| Throwing the shuttle she does faster now, but changing the spool still takes time. | Kasta skytteln gör hon fortare nu, men att byta spolen tar fortfarande tid. |
Fronting with Auxiliary Verbs
If your sentence already requires an auxiliary verb like ska (will/shall) or vill (want to), you do not use gör in the second position. Instead, the auxiliary verb takes the V2 spot as usual.
The main action is still fronted in its infinitive form. You can either place göra in the later half of the sentence, or drop it entirely if the meaning is obvious.
| Rolling the yarn is what he will only do later. | Rulla garnet ska han bara göra senare. |
| Spinning she does, but she doesn't want to weave. | Spinna gör hon, men väva vill hon inte. |
