Time limits (inom)

When managing schedules, setting deadlines, or anticipating deliveries, you often need to define strict timeframes. Here is how to express time limits and handle professional tasks in Swedish.

Setting boundaries with "inom"

To state that an action must occur "within" a specific period, use the preposition inom. It works exactly like its English counterpart and is commonly paired with timeframes like a workday (en arbetsdag).

Customer service will answer within a workday.
Kundtjänsten ska svara inom en arbetsdag.

Professional tasks and updates

When dealing with customer service or technical support, you will frequently hear specific verbs for handling issues and communicating updates. Two essential verbs are åtgärda (to fix an issue) and återkomma (to get back to someone).

Customer service will fix the problem.
Kundtjänsten ska åtgärda problemet.
We must get back to you within the timeframe.
Vi måste återkomma inom tidsramen.

Another crucial verb for managing appointments is avboka (to cancel a booking). You will often use this in relation to your booking confirmation (bekräftelsen).

You must cancel within a week after the confirmation.
Du måste avboka inom en vecka efter bekräftelsen.

"Even if" and "Even though"

Sometimes schedules do not go exactly as planned, or policies apply regardless of wait times. To express these concessions, you can use även om (even if) for hypotheticals, and trots att (even though) for established facts.

Even if the waiting time is long, we will fix the problem.
Även om väntetiden är lång ska vi åtgärda problemet.
Even though the error is simple, he will not get back today.
Trots att felet är enkelt kommer han inte att återkomma idag.
