Fossilized Genitives with "till"
In modern Swedish, prepositions do not change the ending of the following noun. However, historically, the preposition till (to) required the genitive case, adding an -s ending.
While the grammar rule is gone, several expressions survive as "fossilized" phrases. They are used today as fixed idioms for locations and states, carrying a classic, slightly poetic feel perfect for an adventure novel.
Into the Wild
When characters head out into nature, you will frequently encounter these phrases. They can describe both motion toward a place and an ongoing state.

Daily Life and Actions
Fossilized expressions with till are also used for common physical actions and routines, preserving the historical -s ending on nouns for bed, foot, table, and hand. These are fixed adverbial phrases, meaning they never take an article (en or ett).
