Conjunctions of contrast and time (fast, tills)

When facing tough challenges, you may need to express doing something in spite of the conditions. Use the conjunction fast (although) to connect a contrasting fact to your main sentence.

We must continue although the mountain is steep.
Vi måste fortsätta fast berget är brant.
We are hiking outside although the forest is wet.
Vi vandrar ute fast skogen är blöt.

You will also see fastän (even though). It works exactly like fast but can add a little extra emphasis.

He never gives up even though he is tired.
Han ger aldrig upp fastän han är trött.
She continues even though every step is heavy.
Hon fortsätter fastän varje steg är tungt.

Setting time limits with tills

To express pushing through an obstacle up to a certain point, use the conjunction tills (until).

We can hike until the darkness comes.
Vi kan vandra tills mörkret kommer.
You must fight until we reach the peak.
Du måste kämpa tills vi når toppen.
We take a new step and continue until we win.
Vi tar ett nytt steg och fortsätter tills vi vinner.
