To express that you are "having something done" by a professional, use the causative passive construction. In Swedish, this is built using the verb låta (to let/allow).
The causative passive construction
Combine the verb låta with an object, followed by a passive infinitive (a verb ending in -s). To specify who performs the work, use the preposition av (by).
| We are having the house renovated by the construction company. | Vi låter huset renoveras av byggföretaget. |
| They are having the room wallpapered by the tradesman. | De låter rummet tapetseras av hantverkaren. |
| The man is having the underfloor heating installed by the electrician. | Mannen låter golvvärmen installeras av elektrikern. |
Asking questions
To ask questions, invert the subject and låta, or start with a question word.
| Which underfloor heating are you having installed in the bathroom? | Vilken golvvärme låter du installeras i badrummet? |
Future plans and hypotheticals
With auxiliary verbs like kommer att (will) or skulle (would), låta takes its infinitive form.
| The woman will have the quote sent to the electrician. | Kvinnan kommer att låta offerten skickas till elektrikern. |
| Would you let the quote be approved by the plumber? | Skulle du låta offerten godkännas av rörmokaren? |
| Would you have the roof insulated instead of replacing the tiles? | Skulle du låta taket isoleras istället för att byta kaklet? |
